Dumpster Rental FAQs
Roll Off On The Go Rentals rents 10 to 30 cubic yard roll off dumpsters in Montgomery County, Maryland. Each rental includes a set weight allowance (1 to 3 tons depending on size) and a rental period of up to 10 days (7 days for the 30 yard). Extra days are $10 each. Pickup is not automatic, so you need to call when you are done. Answers to the questions we hear most are below.

Who can rent a dumpster?
Anyone. Most of our customers are homeowners doing their own projects, contractors, landlords, and local businesses. You do not need a business account or a contractor's license.
How much does it cost to rent a dumpster?
It depends on the size, the type of debris, your location, and how long you keep it. We quote one flat rate that includes delivery, pickup, and disposal up to the weight allowance for your size. You can see the rate for each size on our online booking page or get it over the phone at (301) 798-6777.
What payment methods do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. We do not accept checks or money orders.
How do I book?
Online at any hour through our booking page, or by phone Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. We also answer email at info@rolloffonthegorentals.com.
How far in advance should I order?
A day or two ahead is ideal, especially in spring and early summer. If you order before noon, same-day delivery is usually possible.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Hablamos español. Call and ask, and we will handle the whole rental in Spanish.
What sizes do you have?
Five: 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 cubic yards. Dimensions and included weight are here:

Pickup load comparisons are estimates based on a standard full-size bed. Every size can be booked online at any hour.
What size dumpster do I need?
Quick guide: 10 yard for one bathroom or a garage cleanout, 15 or 20 yard for a kitchen or a basement, 20 yard for whole-house flooring or an average roof, 25 or 30 yard for whole-house cleanouts, additions, and construction. If you are unsure, call and describe the job. It takes five minutes.
How much weight can I put in?
Each size includes a weight allowance: 1 ton for the 10 yard, 1.5 tons for the 15, 2 tons for the 20, 2.5 tons for the 25, and 3 tons for the 30. A ton is 2,000 pounds. Your load is weighed at the disposal facility, and anything over the allowance is billed per ton.
What happens if I go over the weight limit?
You pay for the extra weight at the per-ton rate for your size. We would rather you not be surprised, so if your project involves roofing, plaster, tile, or anything else heavy, tell us when you order.
Can I put the dumpster on the street?
Often yes, but usually with a permit. Montgomery County's Department of Permitting Services requires a dumpster permit for a container placed in the county's public right-of-way, and requires warning devices such as cones, reflectors, or barricades around it. The county says these permits typically take one to two weeks to issue. If your street belongs to a city or town such as Rockville, Gaithersburg, or Kensington, the permit comes from that municipality. State highways are handled by the state. Getting the permit is the customer's responsibility.
Do I need a permit if the dumpster is in my driveway?
No county permit is needed for a dumpster on private property. Your HOA or condo association may still have rules about containers, so check with them if you have one.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
On a driveway in good condition, normally not. Damage can happen on driveways that are already cracked or broken, and on gravel, dirt, stone, or grass, because of the weight. Not overloading the container helps. We are not financially liable for damage caused by normal dumpster delivery and pickup.
Do I need to be home for delivery?
No. Make sure the spot is clear of cars and other obstructions, and tell us where you want it when you book.
How much space does the truck need?
Enough room to back in straight, and clear space above the spot. Low tree branches, wires, and carport roofs are the usual problems. If access is tight, send us a photo before delivery day.
What can I put in the dumpster?
Most debris from home improvement, demolition, and cleanout projects: furniture, mattresses, carpet, cabinets, drywall, wood, flooring, roofing, siding, yard waste, electronics, and general household junk.
What is not allowed?
- Biohazardous material and medical waste
- Wet paint (dried-out paint cans are fine)
- Batteries
- Propane tanks
- Liquids, solvents, chemicals, and Freon
- Equipment that still has gas or oil in it
If you have any of these, tell us and we will point you to the right place. For Montgomery County residents that is usually the household hazardous waste drop-off at the Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station, 16101 Frederick Rd in Derwood.
Can I throw away a refrigerator or an air conditioner?
Call us first. These contain refrigerant, which cannot go in the container as is.
Can I put concrete, dirt, or brick in the dumpster?
Call before you do. Heavy debris reaches the weight limit very quickly and needs to be set up differently from a normal mixed load.
How should I load the dumpster?
Open the rear door and walk the heavy and bulky items in first, flat against the floor. Break down what you can. Fill the gaps with smaller debris. Everything has to stay inside the container and below the top edge. Nothing can hang over the sides or stick up past the rim, because the driver cannot legally haul it that way. If it is overfilled, you will need to take the excess out before we can pick it up.
Will my dumpster be picked up automatically?
No. We only pick up when you tell us. Call on or before the last day of your rental period to schedule it. If we do not hear from you, the container stays and you are charged $10 for each additional day.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
Up to 10 days for the 10, 15, 20, and 25 yard, and 7 days for the 30 yard. Need it longer? Keep it for $10 a day.
Can I get it picked up early?
Yes. Call as soon as you are finished and we will get it on the schedule.
