New neighborhoods, different kind of work
Clarksburg is the newest large community in Montgomery County. Most of the housing went up after 2000, which means we are rarely hauling out plaster or sixty years of basement storage here. The jobs are different:
- Basement finishing. Many Clarksburg homes were sold with unfinished basements. Framing offcuts, drywall scrap, and packaging from a basement build-out fit in a 10 or 15 yard.
- Builder-grade upgrades. Original carpet, counters, and cabinets coming out after 10 to 15 years. A 15 yard for a kitchen, a 10 for flooring on one level.
- Decks and patios. New decks, and the dirt and sod that come out for a patio. Call before loading dirt, since it is heavy and we handle it differently.
- Move-in and move-out cleanups. Boxes, packing material, and the furniture that did not make the cut.
- New construction. Builders and subs working the sections still going up.

The HOA question
Nearly every neighborhood in Clarksburg has an association, and most have something in their documents about dumpsters and storage containers: how long one can stay, where it can sit, and sometimes a requirement to notify management first. It is normally a short email and a quick yes. It is worth doing, because the fine for skipping it costs more than the dumpster.
Many Clarksburg homes have rear-loading garages on alleys, with a short apron and no front driveway. That is where the container goes. The 10 yard (14 by 7.5 feet) is the usual fit. Single-family homes with front driveways can take a 15, 20, or larger.
Many alleys and some streets inside these communities are private and belong to the HOA. Public county streets fall under the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services, which requires a permit for a dumpster in the right-of-way. Frederick Road (MD 355) and Clarksburg Road (MD 121) are state roads.

Along Frederick Road and out toward Hyattstown, Boyds, and Comus there are older houses, small farms, and properties with barns and sheds. Different job entirely: long gravel drives, plenty of room, and cleanouts that can fill a 30 yard. We do those too.
Will my HOA allow a dumpster?
Most do for a limited time. Ask your management company how many days are allowed and whether the container has to be on your own lot.
Does a dumpster fit on the pad behind my garage?
The 10 yard usually does. Measure the apron from the garage door to the edge of the alley. You need at least 14 feet of length for the container, and you will not be able to use that garage bay while it is there.
